INTRODUCTION:  It is said that boxer Muhammad Ali was once on a plane when the stewardess came by and asked him to fasten his seatbelt.  Ali said “I’m superman and superman don’t need no seatbelt.”  The stewardess replied “Superman don’t need no airplane either, please fasten your seatbelt.” 

Ali wasn’t known for his humility but it’s humility that I want to talk about today.  I’m in a sermon series based upon Paul’s letter to the Philippians.  I’ve entitled the series “God’s Spiritual Stimulus Plan.”  We’re looking for the provisions God has given to keep our spirits strong and healthy in the midst of a poor economy.  So far we’ve talked about the spiritual relationships we have in church, the power of the gospel, and the inspiration of hope.  Today, I want us to think about what Paul has to say regarding humility and, ironically, how humility can actually stimulate our spirit.
