DAVID - REAL PROTECTION - I SAM. 19 (8)

INTRODUCTION:  A soldier went to his chaplain for counsel over his fear of being killed in battle.  The chaplain said, “Son, there’s no sense in fretting over it.  If the bullet has your name on it, you’re going to go and there’s nothing you can do about it.  If the bullet doesn’t have your name on it, then you’re safe.”  The soldier replied, “That may be true, but the bullet I’m worried about is the one inscribed, ‘To whom it may concern!’”

Today I want to talk about God’s protection.  If you’re new to us this morning you should know that we’ve been in a sermon series based on the life of David.  The series is entitled “Keeping it real.”  We’ve talked about real discernment, real giants, real battle and real fatherhood.  In the snapshot of David’s life that we will study today we’re going to see how God intervened to protect David several times and in a variety of ways.  In doing so I want us to grow in our appreciation for God’s protection in our own lives.
